Kunimoto

I can finally recommend a yakiniku restaurant for those who zest for beef without being deceived by the seasoning, Kunimoto. It is located a few steps away from Hamamatucho station.

I could not get the reservation for the “honten” (main restaurant) due to no table available, so I went to the “shinkan” (new restaurant) located in the same area.

First we were served with their signature salad and I ordered a corn tea as I find it unusual. The fresh scent and mouthwatering flavor was just nice for a long and tiring day.

So we ordered the course with all parts of the Japanese beef with their recommendation as we were required to order a course when making the reservation. It contains a different parts of the beef with their matching seasoning. For beef enthusiast, they are very careful with the seasoning by not covering the juiciness and taste of the high quality beef itself.

We were kinda hungry that day so as an extra we ordered “kamenoko” as it was not part of the set. Adding this order, the overall amount was just nice for 2 pax.

And so the dessert follows with a cup of tea. It is a Milk Pudding with Brown Cane Sugar syrup.

The reservation was not hard to make since it was on a weekday night. I went home and I could sleep smiling with a happy tummy.

SEIYUUZAN YAKINIKU

Its been a busy week for me in terms of over-indulging my taste buds. I’ve been out and about, trying some new restaurants and I’m really excited about sharing this yakiniku restaurant I discovered in Shiodome. I loved it !. Seiyuuzan is located on the 41st floor of the Shiodome City Center building with magnificent views and a warm, rich ambiance. It’s a good place to bring guests and the prices are quite reasonable.

Our first course was a beef tartar called ‘yuke’. I don’t eat raw meat that much and have never been a big fan of any kind of beef tartar but this ‘yuke’ tasted absolutely fresh and delicious.

Then came a crunchy fresh salad.

Followed by the best gyu (tongue) I’ve ever tried. So soft and sumptuous.

The beef tongue
Sizzling Sumptuousness

A series of beef cuts in all size, thickness and tenderness followed.

I was really impressed by the ox tail soup that came next.

And the mango sorbet we had for dessert wasn’t just any regular sorbet. Made fresh on our table using liquid nitrogen, this dessert was a spectacle of its own, as you can witness through the series of pictures below.

There you go, my wonderful dining experience at Seiyuuzan. We had the most elaborate course available so the price was over 10.000 yen. But they do have more reasonable courses and even lunch for 2000 yen.

Before I finish, a picture the of the restaurant’s ambiance to give you a feel of the place.

Hail to the King of all Yakiniku

If you asked me to pick only one favorite restaurant in all of Tokyo, this would be it. Jumbo Yakiniku. The one place that never ceases to put a smile on my face. My comfort food. The place I run to after a long flight, to gain energy whenever I feel weak, to lift my spirit whenever I feel down.

Now, the reason it has taken me so long to write a post about this favorite restaurant of mine is because I either forgot to bring a camera, or I am so excited when the food comes that I forget to take pictures until the food is half-finished. Today, I not only made sure I had my camera with me but also reminded myself to take pictures before I dive in.

Jumbo is nestled in a quiet neighbourhood in Shirokanedei. It might not be easy to find so taking a taxi is a good option. It’s a relaxed restaurant and be sure to wear a simple outfit as you will definitely come out smelling of smoke and meat.

The way they sell their meat is by body part of the cow. Its not Kobe beef but grade A5 Wagyu. I’ve tried them all and the best part is the Misuji which is a thinly sliced meat that you are supposed to barbeque for 3 seconds on each side and eat half-cooked, and the Zabuton which is a thicker sliced meat yet unbelievably tender which you are supposed to barbeque for 5 seconds each side. You have a choice of sauce or just salt. Both are good but I seem to prefer the sauce better. Eat the meat with the bowl of hot rice and all is good.

Now their kim chi and green salad are also delicious. For dessert, ask for the vanilla soft ice cream which comes with shredded corn flakes or waffles. Now, this I forgot to take a picture off.

This hearty dinner will set you back about 3000 to 5000 yen per person depending on how much meat your tummy can take. Believe me, its worth it.

MIYABI YAKINIKU

Now, if you are from Indonesia, you will probably have a smile on your face right now because the name if this yakiniku restaurant in Roppongi is the same as a Japanese porn star who is absolutely huge in Indonesia. She may be relatively unknown in Japan, but in Indonesia, she’s a mega star. Of course she probably has nothing to do with this restaurant I’m going to write about, but still, I entered Miyabi with a smile.

The beef in Miyabi is cut a little bit more chunkier than what we are used to at other yakiniku restaurants. For first timers, it’s better to order their sampler set where they present you with different parts of the cow.

After trying the different parts, it’s a good idea to take notes of their names so you can order what you like next time.

After barbecuing the beef, you eat it with one of the two dipping sauces they provide you or with some wasabi. One sauce is a vinegar sauce which is good with the fatty meat and the other is a sweet sauce which I love.

The beef was delicious and another good thing about this place is that it’s not that expensive. It costs less than my favorite Jumbo yakiniku. The special set cost about 4,500 yen per peson but they have many courses for less.
